Onsen Hot Spring
An outdoor stone bath under a timber roof, a bamboo spout pouring in, and steam lying low over the warm water. Touch the water, and turn the spout up or down.

Slow steam and water
Steam drifts slowly over the water and rings spread when you touch it. Nothing flashes. Sound plays only if you start with it.
What you can do here
- Touch the water
- Tap the pool and one broad ring spreads out from your finger, bending the reflection of the roof and the trees as it passes. Drag slowly for a gentle wake.
- Turn the spout
- Spout makes the bamboo stream thinner or fuller. Where it lands, small rings keep spreading into the pool, and the sound of the water follows.
- Thicken the steam
- Steam sets how much mist lies over the warm water. It drifts slowly toward the open garden side and thins as it rises.
Use it as your wallpaper
Press F for fullscreen and M to turn the sound off and on; the volume and your sound choice carry over to every wallpaper. The sound keeps playing if you switch to another tab.

- Some wallpaper apps can show a web page behind your desktop icons. Give one the live link above and the scene runs there on its own: no page around it, no ads and no sound.
- On a TV or a spare screen
- Open this page and press F, or use Fullscreen. While it’s in fullscreen we ask the browser to keep the screen from going to sleep.
- On a phone or tablet
- Save image downloads exactly what’s on the screen as a picture. Set it as your wallpaper from your photos; the phone will crop the sides.
A live wallpaper keeps a page running all day. Through the live link the scene draws at most 30 frames a second and stops while the screen is covered, but on a laptop it still costs some battery.
About onsen
An onsen is a Japanese hot spring, and an outdoor bath like this one is a rotenburo: a pool of mineral water set among rocks, often under a simple roof, with a bamboo pipe topping it up. The steam is thickest on cool mornings, when warm water meets cold mountain air.
About the sounds
Two recordings and one quiet layer: water falling from the bamboo spout, a single soft ripple when you touch the pool, and the open air of a mountain garden. The ripple waits four seconds between plays, as long as it takes the water to settle.
