Black Screen, Pure and Fullscreen
Open a true-black fullscreen display in one click. A black screen is one of the most useful blank screens you can put on a monitor: it reveals panel flaws, rests your eyes, hides idle displays, and saves power on OLED. Double-click for fullscreen, scroll to adjust brightness, press Escape to exit.
Black Screen Test: Backlight Bleed and Glow
The classic monitor test. In a dark room, a healthy LCD should look evenly dark; problems reveal themselves fast:
- Backlight bleed: bright patches leaking from the edges or corners
- IPS glow: a silvery sheen that shifts with your viewing angle
- Clouding: irregular brighter blotches across the panel
Go fullscreen on the black screen, turn off the lights, and inspect the edges. Testing before your return window closes can save you from living with a glowing corner for years.
Dead Pixel and Stuck Pixel Check
On pure black, any pixel that still lights up is stuck. Look for tiny red, green, blue, or white dots, then confirm using our white, red, green, and blue screens. A pixel dark on every color is dead; one lit on a single color is stuck and can sometimes be revived.
Black Screen for OLED Displays
On OLED and AMOLED panels, black pixels are literally switched off. That makes a black screen the gentlest thing you can display: no burn-in risk, minimal power draw, zero glow in a dark room. Use it as an OLED screen saver when you step away, or keep it on a phone at your bedside instead of a glowing lock screen.
Turn Off a Second Monitor Without Turning It Off
Multi-monitor setups often need one display dark - during movies, gaming, focus work, or screen recording. Drag this tab to the extra monitor and go fullscreen: instant off, without unplugging cables or losing your window layout. Your desktop icons stay exactly where they were.
Black Screen as a Sleep Aid
A black screen with brightness scrolled low turns a bright bedroom TV or monitor into a dark, silent panel. Pair it with our white noise screen on another device for a better sleep setup.
Download True-Black Wallpapers up to 8K
Download a genuinely pure #000000 black image at any resolution from 480p to 8K, or set custom dimensions. True-black wallpapers look striking on OLED devices, extend battery life on AMOLED phones, and are handy filler in video editing timelines.
Is Your Screen Black When It Should Not Be?
If a computer screen has gone black on its own, it is usually signal or sleep, not the panel:
- Check the display cable at both ends
- Press a key or move the mouse to wake the machine
- On Windows, press Win+Ctrl+Shift+B to restart the graphics driver
- Try a different input or cable to rule out the port
If the screen shows this page, the panel itself works - the problem is upstream.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a black screen useful for?
A pure black fullscreen helps you test for backlight bleed and dead pixels, hides a second monitor without unplugging it, saves power on OLED displays, and creates a distraction-free dark backdrop.
How do I test my monitor for backlight bleed?
Open the black screen in fullscreen, dim the room lights, and look at the screen edges. Glowing patches or halos along the borders indicate backlight bleed.
Does a black screen save battery?
On OLED and AMOLED displays, yes - black pixels are switched off, so a black screen consumes significantly less power. On LCD screens the backlight stays on, so savings are minimal.
Why is my computer screen black when I did not open this page?
An unexpected black screen usually means the display lost signal or the computer is asleep. Check the cable, press a key, and if the cursor is visible try restarting the graphics driver with Win+Ctrl+Shift+B on Windows.
Can I download a pure black wallpaper?
Yes. Pick any resolution up to 8K or enter custom dimensions and download a true-black image, ideal for OLED wallpapers and video editing.
