White Screen Test: a Guided Check for Any Display
This is a guided version of the classic white screen check. Instead of a single blank page, it walks you through six fullscreen test patterns - white, gray, black, red, green, and blue - with an on-screen hint telling you exactly what to look for on each one. What Each Step Reveals
- Pure white - the master uniformity check. The panel should look evenly white edge to edge. Watch for yellowish or pinkish tint, dark corners, and shadowy patches (the "dirty screen effect").
- 50% gray - uneven backlighting and banding show up on gray before you would ever notice them on white. Gray is what professional calibrators use.
- Black - turn the room lights down and check the edges: glowing patches are backlight bleed, hazy areas are clouding. On OLED, black should be perfectly off.
- Red / Green / Blue - each solid primary isolates one subpixel. A dot glowing the wrong color is a stuck subpixel; run the dedicated dead pixel test to inspect it closely.
When Should You Worry?
Mild tint variation and a little bleed are normal on LCD panels - perfection exists only in marketing. Worry when defects are visible during normal use: a tinted half on a photo-editing monitor, bleed that distracts in dark movies, or any dead pixel on a brand-new device (check your warranty's pixel policy - many brands replace panels for a single defect).

What does a white screen test check for?

How do I test my monitor for backlight bleed?

Why does my white screen look yellow or pink?
A warm or pink tint can come from a night-light/blue-light filter being active, a color profile issue, or genuine panel tint. Disable Night Shift or Night Light first, then re-run the test. If one area stays tinted while the rest is white, it is the panel itself.
